Testosterone / cortisol ratio

unitless ratio

Composite used as a proxy for dual-hormone status. A ratio is not a mechanism.

The T/C ratio appears in popular writing as if it were a single causal knob. It is a derived index. Any association can be driven by T, by cortisol, or by their interaction. Prefer reporting the interaction over the ratio unless the paper pre-registered the ratio.

Also called T:C, dual-hormone index.
