Alcohol and the male reproductive system
M. A. Emanuele, N. Emanuele. Alcohol Research & Health.
Chronic heavy alcohol use suppresses the HPG axis in men: lower T, testicular atrophy, disrupted GnRH. Dose and chronicity matter. A drink at dinner is not this paper.
Edges that cite this paper
- Evening alcohol, 1.0 grams per kilogram in men and 0.85 in women, cut total sleep time from 436.6 to 421.3 minutes and sleep efficiency from 91.2 to 88.0 percent in thirty-one social drinkers on a randomized crossover with overnight PSG.
- Heavy chronic drinking suppresses male testosterone. A 0.5 g/kg drink raised plasma T in thirteen men. Three weeks of 40 grams a day lowered it 6.8 percent in ten men on a controlled diet. A glass of wine is not a T protocol in reverse.
