Kidney disease
events / eGFR slope
A drop in how fast the kidneys filter blood (eGFR), a rise in urine albumin, or a kidney-failure event. A heart attack or stroke is a different count.
Outcome trials tally a composite: kidney failure (dialysis, a transplant, or eGFR under 15), a large drop in eGFR, or death from kidney or heart causes. The yearly eGFR slope and the albumin-to-creatinine ratio are the continuous reads. The object is the kidney. It is not the three-point heart-event tally on the cardiovascular page.
Also called CKD, chronic kidney disease, eGFR decline, albuminuria, kidney failure, nephropathy.

In 3,533 adults with type 2 diabetes and chronic kidney disease, weekly semaglutide 1.0 mg cut a first major kidney event (kidney failure, a 50 percent drop in eGFR, or death from kidney or heart causes) by 24 percent versus placebo (hazard ratio 0.76; Perkovic 2024). Daily liraglutide cut a similar renal composite (Mann 2017).
